All toys that YHA receives that are used will be set in the YHA toy chest until next year’s toy drive distribution. All other toys that are donated and not accepted by Seattle Children’s Hospital will follow the same procedure. This motion was brought up by Minh and passed unanimously. Collaboration with Caroline Guliani (questionable name spelling?) from the organization, Quantum (www.Quantam-usa.net), that planned on donating 500 toys to YHA, will reschedule a toy drive for YHA next year.

Vietnam Collaboration

YHA has agreed to raise a minimum of One-Thousand Dollars for Hong Yen’s group, Wellness Global Foundation for their medical excursion in Vietnam. This fund will help buy medicine and clothes to bring along the trip and assist impoverished villagers. Seattle Children's Hospital Toy Drive 2008

YHA is holding a toy/book drive for children, and we will be donating these items to Seattle Children's hospital. Items have to be new, and Monetary donations are accepted as well (sometimes best way to donate)!

This drive isn't meant to change the lives of these children, but it is meant to help them get used to the hospital environment as they make their stays at the hospital. Anything would be helpful, even if it is just one book you are donating.

Ask your friends, families, or anyone else you like! We have 501c3 status so we are tax exempt, and can provide a tax receipt for your benefit.

I have a wish list if you want to know what type of items to collect. Please contact me, Minh Nguyen, 253 359 8496, or add me on facebook. Let's work together and bring smiles to these children for the holidays!
We can take either forms of donation methods, through paypal or check, whatever is more comfortable and convenient for you.

our paypal email is: youthhealthalliance@gmail.com
or if you want, you can send by check written to:

You can send the check to

Agenda:
1. Jennifer Wu and YHA chapter expansion @ UW
2. Winter Project
3. New Projects
4. Donations + Thank you letters

At 8:00 PM on Sunday, October 26th, 2008 in an AIM chat room, Minh Nguyen called the meeting to order.

Jennifer Wu and YHA chapter expansion @ UW
Jennifer Wu motioned to expand YHA’s presence at the University of Washington, by creating an YHA UW chapter. She will lead this project, and the staff of YHA will assist her from time to time if she needs. Motion was passed unanimously.

Winter Project
Caroline Guliani (questionable name spelling?) from the organization, Quantum (www.Quantam-usa.net), that planned on donating 500 toys to YHA, have not been in contact for a while, therefore, Minh proposes that we start our own toy drives initially, holding them at local schools, such as Ballard High School, and Ingraham High. The planned start date for these toy drives is early November, ending in early to mid-December. This was passed unanimously. Additionally, YHA continues to push for the gifts to be delivered at a children’s hospital, such as Seattle Children’s. John Carter proposed that we first read to the children some books before giving them the presents. This motion was passed unanimously.

New Projects
A new project was presented by Minh Nguyen regarding a Vietnam trip. Another group has asked Minh and the Youth Health Alliance for assistance and collaboration in help fundraising medication, clothes, and/or money to provide for the Vietnam trip. This trip is similar to the Global Medical Brigades, by bringing a team of volunteers, students, and healthcare professionals to provide better medical care in Vietnam villages that need it the most, however, it is a separate group working under the Wellness Global Foundation. Paul suggested that we collect donations in the form of money, therefore will be easier in obtaining medication and clothes. This project and fundraising plan was passed unanimously.
David motioned to help raise money and buy board games for the elderly at a Nursing home. Paul suggested that this is not within our mission, and we will not pursue this goal, however, if David wants to continue with this idea, he will be the lead man for the project, and we will support him. YHA will move on and focus more on its mission.

Donations + Thank you letters
YHA has received a donation from SACRED RIVERS YOGA LLC of 40 dollars. Other donations have been received by Paul and Minh and will be deposited in YHA’s bank account. Thank You letters are in the process of being sent out as well.

At 8:42 PM same day, meeting was adjourned.

  2. Yearly Event
  3. Promoting YHA + Projects
  4. YHA Calendar

At 8:00 PM on Sunday, September 28th, 2008 in an AIM chat room, Minh Nguyen called the meeting to order.

Update on YHA’s Progress

The 501 C 3 status of YHA was approved approximately 2 months ago. With this status, our organization is able to grow in support with respect to tax exemption offered by the organization. Amar is currently updating the organizations official website with Paypal and other relevant information. We also discussed upcoming projects including a Christmas Toy Drive and expansion to local school, as well as prospective videos.

Yearly Event

The annual event working with William Saguil and the Hai Phong Orphanage in Vietnam is coming to its conclusion. $40 in funds for medical supplies for the orphanage will be delivered shortly. Prospects of expansion of project in the future remain high. YHA hopes to make progress in assisting the orphanage next year, and potentially as an on going project.

Promoting YHA + Projects

A project proposal was offered up by Minh regarding a toy drive organized for YHA related causes by an unspecific party. That individual will be elaborated upon in future meetings. This project will likely entail good publicity and the acquisition of 500+ new toys for children. Minh motioned to collaborate with Children’s Hospital in the allocation of toys and the vote was passed unanimously.

Also, the need of fundraising was brought up by Amar with ideas such a Halo Tournament at $5 a play. The notion was quickly brushed aside.

YHA Calendar

The next meeting will address the progress on toy drives to be held later in the season, potentially around Christmas time. We will later plan on an expansion of the drive to local schools. Videos being made for the season will include Jennifer’s video on Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) for the winter and any other ideas brought up at our next meeting.

At 8:47 PM same day, meeting was adjourned.

  3. YHA Calendar
  4. Promoting YHA + Projects
  5. Yearly Event
  6. Members

At 7:15 PM on Sunday, July the 13th, 2008 in an AIM chat room, Minh Nguyen called the meeting to order.

Update on YHA’s Progress (Goals)

501c3 has been submitted to the IRS, and YHA is currently waiting for their response for approval. Approval would mean Tax Exemption for YHA, and improves their overall status as a Non-profit Organization becoming a more respectable group among other established organizations.

Establish Meeting times

Paul moved to have the meeting monthly. The proposal was YHA to have monthly meetings open to everyone on the last Sunday of each month. This motion was passed with unanimous voting.

YHA Calendar

Everyone came up with ideas on what the YHA calendar should be filled up with. The Calendar is the list of events that YHA will partake in yearly. Some that were mentioned includes: March for Babies, Relay for Life, Walk for Rice, Bloomsday, and just to name a few. For the next meeting, it is encouraged that everyone comes up with some idea on what other events YHA should participate in as a group. Amar suggested that YHA incorporate a universal calendar for all members and the public to see, such as GMAIL calendar.

Promoting YHA + Projects

Amar proposed that YHA create PODCASTs and release them to the public such as iTunes. This is a new field for YHA, and it seems Amar is more familiar with this topic and will lead the PODCAST project. If anyone has any ideas for projects, such as their own, or video topics for youtube, they are encouraged to share them with YHA members.

Yearly Event

Paul moved to find a Yearly Event for YHA to conduct. An idea that was brought up by Paul was to raise money to purchase bicycles for kids. However, it is only a tentative idea at the moment, and any cause or theme for YHA’s Yearly Event is still undetermined. Any ideas are appreciated by YHA members.

Members

Briana Levitch was nominated by Paul Tran to be a Board Member for Youth Health Alliance and act as a replacement to Andrew Zarate. This was passed unanimously. Her status is effective immediately.

At 8:15 PM same day, meeting was adjourned.

Tentative Agenda for Next Meeting:

  • Come up with ideas for YHA Calendar
